Zainab Hassan, 47 years old and mother of 2 daughters, died 15 July 2011 in Sitra allegedly due to inhalation of tear gas. Her death happened at the time of the attacks by the security forces on the rally in Sitra titled "The March for Self-Determination". Jalila Alsalman’s family have informed us that she is being exposed to more pressure and ill treatment lately. Jalila is a 45 year old mother of 3 children and was the deputy head of the Bahrain Teachers Society at the time of her arrest. She was arrested on the 29th of March. Read more

A Bahraini poet sentenced in June for reading a poem was released on 13 July. However, there are reportedly conditions attached to her release and Amnesty International is calling on the authorities to remove any that have been imposed, to annul her conviction and to clarify her current legal status. amnesty.org/en/library/info/MDE11/039/2011/en

Layoffs continue: Dr. Hussain Mahdi, Dermatologist from Salmaniya, got fired on the 13th July by the MOHR . Similar to Firas Hashim on the 12th July.

On 15 July 2011, Dr. Mohsen Tarif, a consultant psychiatrist who works in Salmaniya Medical Complex, was arrested. He left the house early in the morning to attend a meeting at SMC- given that Friday is a weekend, but never went back home. We received information confirming his arrest by the security forces.
